It’s been a while since I said hi!
So yeah. I don’t know for sure what my characters look like. So I’m working on that, and working on some development of the novel’s world.
What happened in the future of our world, to change it to what it is in my story? I’ve got to know so that the world will be believable. And to find out what people look like, I really have to develop a lot of the present world, too—where do particular human features come from in each part of the country? So I need to know the parts of the country. World development and character appearances go together!
I definitely want to get better at worldbuilding, sometimes it seems like there’s always one more thing I need to work out. I do think doing more building earlier in the book-writing process might help it not seem to be needed in as much of a hurry, and create a better foundation for first and second drafts. But even so there’s probably always building you can’t do without writing.
So that’s what I’m working on…Jim’s nation in his present day (I keep working out kinks in what people think and believe), some history of the larger world, and exactly what the characters look like. Cause seriously I should know that by now. Plus then I could try some character art…
I’m also rewatching Pacific Rim, a 2013 movie about monsters and robots. It’s an absolutely awesome movie with great battles AND great character arcs. And did I mention monsters and robots?
Happy New Year!
